Brownsville Quad-Plex

Mata Garcia Architects has completed perliminary design work for a quad-plex apartment development in Brownsville, Texas. The $500,000 project is scheduled for construction beginning in August of 2012.

Region One Interview

Truan Jr. High School Gym Renovations

Mata-Garcia Architects LLP has completed Construction Documents for the renovation of the Carlos F. Truan Junior High School Gymnasium. Proposals for the $1,000,000.00 project are due on April 17, 2012.
East elevation of gymnasium. Honeycomb graphics overlaid on multiple stripes help deconstruct the corners of the space, giving the facility a intimate feeling with the main focus being that of the court and the teams playing the game. Stinger graphics, a new scoreboard, renovated goals and new telescopic bleachers will round-out the interior finishes.
 New bleachers will seat 750 fans on either side of the new gym court flooring, which will be framed with a border containing graphics for the Stingers and Stingerettes.

San Benito Cultural Arts Center Museum

Mata-Garcia Architects LLP has developed a concept for a Cultural Heratige Museum in San Benito, Texas as part of a request for proposals from the City of San Benito.  The facility will house the Narcisso Martinez Cultural Arts Center, the San Benito History Museum, the Freddy Fender Museum and the Texas Conjunto Hall of Fame and Museum. Our concept restores and maintains in-use the city's 1930 public library as an entrance lobby and gift shop with new galleries on either side. Submissions are due March 7, 2012, with a selection of an architectural firm due by the end of March 2012. Design work will commence in April with construction due to start in January of 2013.

Texas Polytechnical Institute

Mata-Garcia Architects LLP has been selected to design the $25 million, 80,000SF Texas Polytechnical Institute campus in Mercedes, Texas. Schematic Design work has been completed on master planning the site and the main academic building.

New Client!

Vanguard Academy, a Charter School for the Fine Arts has selected Mata Garcia Architects to partner with its superintendent, board and staff in developing a new campus in Alamo, Texas. The master plan of the complex will include an elementary school, a middle school, a high school and a multi-purpose facility. We look forward to this exciting project and becoming a part of the Vanguard Academy family.

Knockout! WBO Title Belt

Omar "Panterita" Figueroa, a Mata-Garcia Architects intern (Summer 2005/Summer 2006) won the World Boxing Organizations Youth Lightweight Championship last night, defeating previously unbeaten Michael Perez. Congrats Omar!

Weslaco High School Music Halls Contract Awarded


The Weslaco High School Board of Trustees has selected Journeyman Construction as the general contractor for the Weslaco High School Music Halls. The 23,600 square foot facility came in under budget at $3,832,000.00 ($162.37 per square foot). Construction will start on December 3, 2011 with a completion date of August 28, 2012. Mata*Garcia Architects looks forward leading the team effort in getting this long awaited facility completed.

Angela Gerusa Leal Elementary School Dedication

On Saturday, October 22, 2011, the San Benito CISD dedicated this eco-friendly school facility in memory of Angela Gerusa Leal. Serving as Master of Ceremonies, school principal Manuel Cruz introduced various school administrators and members of the Gerusa and Leal families.

Mr. Antonio G. Limon, SBCISD Superintendent of Schools, gives the Welcoming Remarks to the community assemble for dedication ceremony.

Christopher Collins, Intern Architect at  Mata*Garcia Architects spoke about the architectural design concept used for the school and how the facility will serve as a teaching tool as well.
  
The Gerusa Leal family and the San Benito CISD both presented moving video presentations of Angela Gerusa Leals life story. Poignant home movies of Mrs. Leal with her family were a highlight of the ceremony.

The main student corridor highlights the schools science theme with planet and constellation graphics providing a learning experience while circulating through the school.

Roofing x 8

The Edcouch-Elsa ISD has selected Mata * Garcia Architects LLP to provide plans and specifications for the re-roofing of eight district facilities. The $4.2 million project will address water penetration and roof draining problems.  The MGa team has conducted initial site visits to each campus, documenting current conditions, water penetration points and taken core samples of the various types of existing roofing materials.  The facilities are as follows:

Tuesday Talks: Building Insulation


This course provided an overview of SPF, Spray Polyurethane Foam, beginning with its composition and how it is applied, as well as reviewing its multiple roles in the building envelope. The key to any material is how it works, and the course reviewed some of its many applications in both residential and commercial fields. A versatile and effective material such as SPF can help a LEED project with credits in many direct and indirect ways;Energy and Atmosphere, Indoor Environmental Quality Materials and Resources.
